Golden rod


Golden rod Solidago virgaurea. Common name: Verge d'or, solidago, woundwort, Aaron's Rod.

Occurrence

this is a plant normally found wild in woods in Great Britain, Europe , Central Asia and North America but it is also a common garden plant.

Parts used

the leaves contain tannin, with some bitter and astringent chemicals that are unknown.

Medicinal uses

aromatic, stimulant, carminative. This herb is astringent and diuretic and is highly effective in curing gravel and urinary stones. It aids weak digestion, stops sickness and is very good against diphtheria. As a warm infusion it is a good diaphoretic drug and is used as such to help painful menstruation and amenorrhoea (absence or stopping of menstrual periods).

Administered as

fluid extract, infusion, spray.
